Multiplayer is good, single player is lacking

You could always ask someone for a guest pass and try it yourself.

Still wondering whether I should buy it really, don't think it's going to be as great as WC3 was when it was released tbh.

I'm happy to donate a guest pass since everyone I know who would be interested has already bought it...

The multiplayer is obviously excellent, but who cares. We know that already.

Single player is fantastic. The missions are really first class. I have no idea what planet SBB is on, or what he's comparing it to but so far (and i'm no where close to finishing as far as I can tell) it's great.

The missions are all different, interesting and engaging. It's not grindy at all unlike some other single player RTSs. The story and cutscenes are cheesy but _very_ well done and the upgrades mechanism is also enough to make you try.

I expect a lot of replayability as I grow in skill level (i'm still quite the n00b), after completing on normal I'll look forward to attempting hard then brutal.

God damn the missions are good, once again, SBB must be on crack or something to call the single player lacking.

How long or what limitations are on the guest pass?

I wouldn't mind giving it a go to find out what all the fuss is about!

10 hours of game time AFAIK, then your account freezes so you can buy the game and carry on from the same point Smile

7 hours or 14 days play time.

Also in relation to my previous comments, what exists of the single player is good, short of a bit of dodgy writing and voice acting, it's just stupid that there's no Protos or Zerg ... thats what kills it for me imo. I know they said they're going to add it later ... but to me thats total bs ... over 10 years ffs.

Single player is amazing. I have been looking forward to the multiplayer bit for years, yet I haven't even touched it.

They do have the classic commando missions, the standard defend the XX ones, but so many more twists and cool bits to it. Also storylines choices, research that is hard to choose, and yeah, wow.

Starcraft 2 goes on the list of games you just have to have played/completed. If you claim to like gaming (single player or multiplayer) and don't have a copy, you need to fix that.

As annoying as it is that there is no Zerg (as this is pretty much all I play), I think splitting the 3 races into 3 campaigns is a great idea. If you ever hope to get better at a game like this you need to know each race well, so having the campaigns like that makes you learn each one through the single player. Plus it stretches out the SC2 goodness Razz I still haven't had chance to start it yet, but if the missions are as good and varied as I've heard then I'd say Blizzard have done a damn good job all round...

I was pretty sceptical also when I heard it was split into 3 games, but now I love it. The reason being they have added a whole lot of story (not just an abbreviated story to fit 3 on the disc), and tbh the multiplayer is there anyway which for a lot of people is all they will ever look at.

Anyway it has already taken me as long as most singleplayer games, and I'm only half way through! Not to mention the fact that Starcraft was alright, but Brood War was the add on (with more story, in fact a second half of the story), that made is AMAZING, and added a lot of the units that made it what it is - medic? Lurker? DT? Corsair?

There are 5 Protos missions in the game.

The campaign took me about 12 hours on Hard, and to be honest, it felt long enough. Longer if you include all the time weighing up which upgrades to buy or research to use, and watching those stupid news stories. The missions were varied and interesting. Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising and Company of Heroes were much more fun in my opinion. But I think that's because the base building in the Starcraft single player just boils down to a set build order, the same every mission (ignoring the obvious commando levels). The AI was also terrible. It will just run perpetually into your bunkers.

Is Brutal any different?

Also the voice acting and dialogue were atrocious, so were the sub plots. Feel like huge amounts was just ignored. The spectres, that stupid fucking doctor. They were weak. I also hated how the 'decision' missions rewarded you whatever your choice. Don't want to give away spoilers, but the game rewrites itself you can't f**k up.

It was fun, but nothing ground breaking. But that's only the single player aspect Wink.

Sorry, didn't realise there were actually protos missions, I've been very busy with real life s**t and haven't actually got that far so apologies for that. Maybe im just being disappointed after the huge build up, but I still feel let down they didnt make a "100%" game
